Bespoke software

Using AI well is now a core business skill.

AI has lowered the cost of a whole range of office work, and nowhere more than software. A system that used to take an agency six months and six figures can now be built in weeks, for a fraction of that. The businesses that take advantage will out-compete the ones that do not.

We think small businesses benefit most. You do not need to be an AI expert. What counts is being open to change, and owner-run businesses are far better at that than large ones. A well-run business of your size can go from very little to a genuinely useful piece of software in a matter of weeks.

John spent two decades in and around the software industry before starting Peatling Group. Whether it is choosing the right tools, an audit of what could be automated, or building software that truly fits how you work, that experience is what you get.

Software your team already knows how to use

Off-the-shelf software is built for thousands of businesses at once, so it speaks everyone's language and nobody's in particular. Your team has to learn its names for things, work around screens they never need, and remember which of forty menus hides the one button they use. That is where most of the training time goes.

Bespoke software starts from how you already work. Jobs, rounds, visits and loads are called what you call them. There is nothing on screen you do not use. And each person sees only what matters to them: the engineer sees their jobs, the office sees the diary, the owner sees the numbers. Most teams pick it up without much training, after the first walk-through.

Where every software build starts

A working proof of concept, before you commit.

We build a small working version of the idea and put it in your hands. Not a slide deck, not a mock-up: a real screen, using your real data, that you and your team can try for a week or two.

If it earns its keep, we carry on and make it fit for daily use.

How a build runs

01

Proof of concept

A small working version of the idea, using your real data.

02

Live build

We work alongside you, iterating until the software does what you want and gives you time back. We can also optionally act as your advisor for a wider array of AI-related projects. This may last one month or multiple years, depending on your ambitions and company's complexity.

03

Maintenance

We provide bug fixes, small tweaks and, most importantly, proactive security, to keep your software working well.

What “production-ready” means

A proof of concept is a prototype: it works when we are standing next to it. Making it production-ready is the unglamorous work that lets you forget about it and just use it, the way you would a boiler or a van. Here is what that involves.

Two ways to work with us

Advise

We help you decide what to build, what to buy, and what to leave alone. Scope, specification and choosing suppliers, so you do not spend money on the wrong thing.

Build

We work alongside you hands-on: design, build, put it live, and look after it. Your knowledge of the business, our build. You own the code and the accounts from day one.
